Study the endangered species in Tan Hoa pangasius farming area of Vinh Hoan company-a criteria for sustainable aquaculture certification (ASC)

During 10 days, from 14-24 June, 2012, a group of RECERD specialists have evaluated the species facing threat of extinction in Tan Hoa pagasius aquaculture area, Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province.
This is an applied evaluation to advise Vinh Hoan company on how to identify the species facing threat of extinction in Tan Hoa area, and to advise the company on the methods, processes, and materials, to minimize the adverse affects of the farming activities on the endangered species. This is one of the requirements for Tan Hoa farming area to receive the sustainable aquaculture certificate (ASC) of the Aquaculture  Stewardship Council.

Tan Hoa farm of Vinh Hoan company is located in Tan Hoa commune, Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province, 25km far from the Biodiversity Centre of the province- Tram Chim National Park. It is newly recognized as the 2000th RAMSAR site of the world. Tram Chim National Park has area of 7,313hectares only, but consists of 130 species of indigenous plants, belonging to 47 species, almost 40 species of amphibians reptiles with 6 types of biomes characteristics. There are 129 species of fresh water fish, 230 species of waterfowl, including 32 rare species. Especially, sarus is a migratory bird, which has a significant international importance species.
 
 
RECERD is also working with some other seafood companies like Vinh Hoan, which want to gain the Pangasius Aquaculture Dialogue Standard (PAD) in Mekong Delta.
